SEBASTIAN LEHTIMÄKI is a go-kart driver, born on Valentine’s Day in 2010. With a will to win and drive to compete, this young man from Lahti has a boundless passion to be behind the wheel.
Life is not all about driving, however. Sebu has his own fitness programme, and as an active boy, he also goes downhill skiing, plays football, cycles, and goes swimming with his friends, but can calm down to read too.
An English-speaking kindergarten and the English-language classes of Tiirismaa School have provided a solid basis for his
language skills. Sebastian is extroverted and positive by nature, and greets each day with a smile on his face.
HIS FIRST ENCOUNTER with motorsports happened in 2017 at the Pippo motorsports centre in Lahti, where Sebu drove around a few times in a rental kart. His interest awakened and by the end of the summer, we bought him his first kart.
In 2018, he attended the Pippo driving school and took part in the club’s own Pippo Cup. He came in third, and the club presented him with two awards: Most Hard-Working Track User, and Newcomer of the Year.
2018 also saw an upgrade in hardware, and the new kart was taken to its first races elsewhere – the regional championships
in Kotka were a memorable first for the whole family. After that, Sebu got to compete in the regional champions’ race in Vaasa.
Sebu spent the 2019 season in the Cadet class, succeeding in race after race. The 2020 season was spent in the Micro
class, on racetracks all across Finland. He also drove in Rotax Max races during the season. In 2021, he rose to the Mini60
class. Sebu passed the tests to get into an Italian factory team and take part in the WSK Super Master Series. A silver medal
in the Finnish Championships, the IAME Series Finland’s “best driver using an IAME engine” title, and a ticket to the IAME
Series World Final competition capped off the year.
THE 2022 SEASON kicked off again in Italy, where the spring consist of testing, training and racing with the new, bigger OKJ class kart. With the support of the professional Koski Motorsport team, Sebu is increasingly aiming for international competitions.
The European Championships and the World Championships will be added to the 2023 calendar.
SEBASTIAN has a clear set of goals: “I want to keep learning new things and become the world’s best Formula driver.
The work is done one day at a time
